A number of cars have had petrol drained in the Yarmouth area after thieves drilled a hole in the bottom of the fuel tanks.

The fuel tank of a Hyundai was drilled sometime between 4pm on March 31 and 3pm on April 1 in Sturdee Avenue.

Suspect(s) have also twice targeted the fuel tank of a Ford Fusion in Beatty Close. The first happened between March 17 and March 19 and the second between March 22 and March 25.

Finally, sometime between March 28-29, a hole was drilled in the fuel tank of a Kia Picanto in Hawkins Close, and the fuel drained.

Officers have offered this advice to vehicle owners in the area:

• Wherever possible, keep vehicles in a secure area, preferably a garage, shed or outbuilding

• Re-fuel vehicles just before the planned journey rather than leaving a vehicle fully fuelled overnight

• Park vehicles in areas that are well lit so they can be observed easily

• Use secure parking areas or compounds when vehicles are parked overnight, especially vehicles not parked at their operating base

• Consider the use of alarms. This could be on the vehicles themselves or for the perimeter of the parking/storage area

• Park vehicles against solid objects such as buildings or other vehicles on the fuel tank side to prevent access.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the areas around the dates stated.

Anyone with any information relating to these crimes, can contact Yarmouth Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
