A Great Yarmouth man has gone from fat to fit in an amazing lifestyle change.

In the space of a few months, Thomas O'Gregory has shed almost four stone, given up a 20-year smoking habit and overcome a love of the booze.

Now instead of propping up the bar the 38 year old is down the gym keeping up a demanding fitness regime.

The transformation has been so dramatic that Thomas's mum did not recognise him when she paid a visit at Christmas.

Since joining Caister Weight Watchers in July, Thomas has shrunk from 17st to 13st 6lb by sticking to healthy meals with plenty of fruit and veg.

He has been supported by fiancée Joanne Barnes, who has also managed to lose four stone on the diet, slimming down from 18 to 14st.

Thomas said: “I put on the weight about three or four years ago; I was drinking heavily and not very active.

“I guess I was a couch potato and finally decided to really turn my life around last summer. I was not getting enough exercise and smoking about 30 to 40 cigarettes a day.

“Mum did not recognise me when my parents came to visit for Christmas, I was standing outside to meet them and dad had to point me out to her.

“Now I do about 20 hours exercise at the gym each week and go on the weights and running machine and my stomach is certainly a lot flatter.”

Although he has reached his target weight, Thomas is still shedding the pounds as the result of his healthy living.

He has to stick to 2,000 calories a day on the diet and keeps trim at the Marina Centre gym, where his achievements impressed so much that he was awarded the member of the year title.

Currently unemployed, Thomas is hoping his new-found confidence will soon help him return to the workplace.

Bridget Willets, who runs the Weight Watchers group at Caister Community Centre, said: “Thomas has been brilliant achieving his weight loss in such a short time. He is an amazing person and now gives tips and advice to the class and is a great inspiration to the other members.”
