ROSS and Samantha Parsons could be forgiven for being flushed with success as they fuss their baby daughter.

For in an amazing toilet-based drama, baby Leah was delivered in a downstairs toilet of her new home with the help of her father’s safe pair of hands.

In a stroke of convenient luck, Ross, 33 and manager of Great Yarmouth’s Grosvenor Casino, proved he had a steady hand as he caught his newborn child as she was born while her mother was standing up.

The drama unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning when Samantha, 25, was at home in Oulton Broad while her husband worked a late shift.

She started feeling pressure in her abdomen at about 2am and about an hour later began to fear her baby was coming as she could feel its head.

Luckily her husband finished his shift early and as he walked through the door the first thing he heard was a shout of “Get the car, it’s coming now!”

The couple hoped they could reach the James Paget University Hospital in enough time for the delivery.

However, as Sam reached the bottom of the stairs, she realised something was happening and went into the toilet where her waters broke heralding Leah’s arrival.

Ross, who has been at the casino for 15 years, said: “I stood in the toilet by Samantha and caught Leah as she came out.

“It was amazing. It may sound a cliche but I just did not think about it at the time and just got on with it. I feel incredibly lucky I was there at the right time and was the first to hold Leah.

“It was also lucky we did not get in the car as she would have born halfway down the A12.”

Leah, who arrived on her due date, was born at 4.30am and weighed an impressive 8lb 14oz.

A 999 operator talked the couple through their surprise delivery.

After the birth Ross had to hug Leah to keep her warm before paramedics arrived and made sure she was healthy.

Samantha, who works for Waveney District Council benefit department in Lowestoft, joked: “After what happened perhaps we should have called her Louise or Lou Lou.

“I am very proud of Ross. He did not panic at all. I am glad he was there and he had a good pair of hands.

“Obviously our main concern at the time was that Leah was OK and luckily she was.

“She is a beautiful baby, but she does not know the fuss she has caused.”

Leah has an older sister Erin, who was born two years ago during a 13-hour labour and weighed 7lb 9oz.

Ross and Samantha celebrated their third wedding anniversary on Sunday and they met on a blind date.

They both wanted to thank the paramedics and the 999 operator who helped them.
