FOR the first time ever, a Norfolk venue has been selected to host the final of one of the world's favourite televised snooker events. Potters Leisure Resort, at Hopton on Sea, is counting down the days to the climax of the 2008 PartyPoker.com Premier League Snooker on Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7.
The event will be televised live on Sky Sports.
The Premier League Snooker semi-final and final will be played in Potters' famous international arena, known as the venue for the World Indoor Bowls championship. This is the first time that the East of England has played host to the final of such a prestigious, televised snooker event; featuring sporting legends such as John Higgins and Ronnie O'Sullivan, who has won the title for the past four years running.
Now in its 23rd season, the Premier League Snooker is the world's only major snooker tournament played to a league format. The field consists of seven of the world's very best players, each battling it out over the best of six frames; making a total of 21 matches. There are two points available for a win and a point for a 3-3 draw; following the round-robin section of play the top four players move forward to the big money play-offs hosted by Potters Leisure Resort in December.
The semi-finals (December 6) are the best of 11 frames and the final (December 7) is over 13 frames.
The players taking part in the 2008 Premier League Snooker are; Ronnie O'Sullivan, Stephen Hendry, John Higgins, Steve Davis, Mark Selby, Joe Perry and Ding Jun-hui; with Mark Selby being the first to qualify to appear at Potters at the play-offs.
The event is being broadcast for over 48 hours live coverage on Sky Sports in the UK and Matchroom Sport Television is producing 24 x two hour highlight programmes which will be syndicated globally.
Brian Potter, chairman and founder of Potters Leisure Resort said: “We have built a world-wide reputation as the home of the World Indoor Bowls Championships and are really proud of this. But we thought the time was right to bring a new sporting event to Potters. We know that many of our guests are snooker fans and when were approached by Matchroom Sport to host the semi-final and final of such a prestigious event as the Premier League Snooker we grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
“Like bowls, snooker is a sport that is open to absolutely anyone; you don't have to be wealthy or super-fit to start playing and can enjoy it at whatever level you play. Whilst we don't yet know which players will be competing at Potters, with sportsmen such as Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Selby and John Higgins in the competition we can guarantee that the audience will be in for two nights of unforgettable snooker. We work hard to maintain our Five Star rating and bringing this type of event to Potters is part of our commitment to delivering our guests an exceptional experience.”
Day tickets are available for both the semi-finals and the grand final at £17.50 each.
Potters has also planned a three night festive break starting on Friday, December 5. The three night showbreak, designed especially for adults, costs £244 and includes tickets for both nights of the Premier League Snooker, accommodation, entertainment and three meals on each full day of your stay. Without tickets for the snooker, the break costs £219.
