CONSERVATIVE plans to reduce traffic congestion and disruption and improve road safety have been hailed by the party's prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Great Yarmouth.

Brandon Lewis is backing the bid to deal with rogue clampers, constant road works and unnecessary speed cameras.

Proposed measures include:

Switching from installing new fixed speed cameras to alternative safety measures, such as vehicle activated signs and better education

Scrapping speed camera quangos and publishing details of the revenue from each camera

Clearer rules on the timing of traffic lights, to deal with concerns about settings being covertly changed to keep them on red

Cracking down on rogue wheel clampers

Freeing councils to pilot schemes like turn left on red for cyclists.

Mr Lewis said: “Law-abiding drivers have to avoid endless road works, cash-extorting rogue clampers and speed cameras cash-extorting rogue clampers and speed cameras installed to raise money rather than improve safety.

“Conservatives will take the practical, common sense measures that are needed to tackle the congestion that is costing Great Yarmouth's economy millions.

“Greater use should be made of technology like vehicle activated signs to cut speeding. It's time for change to get Yarmouth moving.”
