THE glitz and glamour of Hollywoods' top actors will be coming to a broadland village next week as a film showing if girls are cleverer than boys receives its premiere.

Flegg High School, in Martham, will be showing the documentary Are Boys Smarter than Girls? on Wednesday night.

The film was made by 12 pupils from the school after an Ofsted report last year noted that girls achieved better than their male counterparts in their exam results.

During the film project staff and pupils took part in a survey, which showed that not only were girls viewed as cleverer but that they got away with more in the classroom and were much neater than boys.

To help launch the short film the school will be transformed into Oscar night like venue with a red carpet and various movie stars welcoming film goers.

It is hoped the film will help the school change the way it teaches boys and girls and that it could be shown to other schools in the region to help bridge any gender gaps in educational achievement.

Ruth Bullard, Flegg's manager of business and enterprise, said: “The film premiere will be as real as possible with a red carpet, posh drinks on arrival, popcorn and Hollywood A list actors and actress - although they will only be photographs.”

Are Boys are Smarter than Girls? was a joint project with the school, community film maker Michelle Savage of Shelly Telly and the Click design consultancy. It was funded by the Change School programme.
