A tourism legend has spoken of his frustration after vandals destroyed two seaside benches provided for visitors who may never before have seen the sea.

Brian Potter, chairman of Potters Resort in Hopton said that while locals may take the unrivalled views for granted, others were being deprived of the opportunity to sit and share the vista.

Last Friday saw a determined effort by vandals to totally smash two benches. Mr Potter said he will replace the benches but there was little point replacing glass in a “lost cause” shelter that was constantly being attacked.

He said: “At Potters Resort, on our cliff top, we have placed benches to enable our guests, many less fortunate than we locals, some of whom have never had the opportunity of ever or rarely seeing the sea, as they live in inland crowded cities, to sit and share our views.

“Therefore, I say to these young, local vandals to spare a brain cell for those who scarcely, if ever, have the opportunity to sit quietly and take in our privileged sea views that you take for granted.

“Please think of those less fortunate than you, and when we repair and replace their cliff top seats please leave them alone to enable locals and our visitors to enjoy our wonderful seascape.”
