A TREASURE trove of old documents which gives a remarkable insight into the life of a 1940s soldier have been unearthed at a Great Yarmouth charity shop.

The small pile of documents, concealed in a brown envelope, were handed into the Cancer Research shop on Regent Street as part of a large donation.

The papers belong to Joseph Bowles of St. Peters Road, Great Yarmouth, and include a soldier’s release book, an insurance policy, a driving licence, a soldier’s service book, a photograph of a wedding, a release leave certificate.

Alan Jackson, 61, who is the shop treasurer, has issued an appeal to Joseph Bowles, or a relation of Mr Bowles to step forward and claim the documents.

He said: “I have been researching my family history for the past nine years and I would love to find something like this.”
