A successful trust which runs a Yarmouth sports facility looks poised to be given the green light to carry on operating the seaside site and start running a swimming pool.

The Yarmouth Sport and Leisure Trust has managed and heavily invested in the 26-year-old Marina Centre since April 2006.

Since the charitable trust was formed visitor numbers have gone up - with 79,000 people using the centre's pool last year - and an annual loss of £70,000 has been turned into a £15,000 profit.

On Wednesday Yarmouth Borough Council will discuss allowing the trust to carry on running the council owned site and take over operating the Phoenix Swimming pool in Bradwell from Waveney District Council.

Although the borough council has praised the trust for its investment at the centre, the authority has also investigated if private companies could run the two sports site as well and make more of profit.

However a council report says that the trust is the best option as it would improve the quality of service, is focussed on customer need and the new look trust could also seek to extend facilities at the Bradwell pool.

The Yarmouth Sport and Leisure Trust took over running the Marina Centre from Leisure Connection.
