OLD and new staff and cadets of Training Ship Warrior were saddened when long standing commanding officer David Down retired from the Cobholm-based Naval Cadet Corps last week.
David has contributed heavily to the running of the unit and lives of cadets and staff over many years and will be sorely missed.
A sea cadet as a child, he was recently awarded an MBE for his work with children and teenagers in the Great Yarmouth area.
Two weekends ago, staff and cadets enjoyed the atmosphere and history of the 10th Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival as they showed off their band skills. The festival was a chance not only to show off the band, but to recruit new cadets and raise funds for unit activities.
Consisting of cadets and staff from TS Warrior Naval Cadet Corps, the band is made up of drum, bugle and glockenspiel musicians. Staff and Warrior parents and supporters pulled out all the stops with a cake stall which made 400 while the juniors held bucket collections while the band played. More funds were handed over as well with the donation of 250 by Christine Young from BSC.
