A village car park will close early to stop 'rowdy' youths from congregating there.
The Burgh Castle's Roman fort car park, popular with locals and dog walkers, has traditionally shut at dusk. But late summer nights have brought with them an increase in anti-social behaviour and vandalism.
From August 1, Norfolk Archaeological Trust (NAT) will lock the car park gates at 6pm in a bid to stop problems from escalating over the school holiday.
NAT chairman Caroline Davison said it is, however, only a temporary measure.
'We're going to trial it for a month because we are aware there could be an impact on the residents of the village,' she said.
'We've been closing at dusk but it's been reported by local people that quite a few groups are hanging around in there.
'There have been some problems down there; there was damage to two cycle racks and we believe that was caused by a car, because we also found a car damaged.
'We don't want people to be put off from coming if the car park is getting rowdy and there are people hanging about there late at night.
'But it is just a trial. If people come back to us and say it's causing traffic and parking problems, we will look at it again.'
Burgh Castle Parish Council has raised concern over the potential impact.Councillors against the 6pm closure said it would lead to parking on Butt Lane which is 'heavily used' by pedestrians during the holiday season.
They also voiced fears that roads around the church would soon get congested, putting lives of young people living on Church Road at risk.
