A campaign group which aims to cut VAT on accommodation to boost the tourism industry will be visiting Great Yarmouth.
As part of a nationwide tour, The Campaign to Cut Tourism VAT will be in the resort next Wednesday with an ice cream van and stall to raise awareness of the campaign.
The campaign will be handing out free Mr Whippy ice cream and five iTunes gift cards between 11am and 1pm.
Cut Tourism VAT is an umbrella campaign calling for the rate of tourism VAT to be cut from 20pc to 5pc on accommodation and attractions.
The UK’s tourism VAT rate is twice that of Spain, Italy and France and nearly three times that of Germany.
In Yarmouth over 5,800 people are employed in the industry which generates £130m for the town’s economy.
The campaign’s research suggests a reduction to 5pc would create 260 jobs locally and boost the economy by £9.9m.
