NORFOLK County Council looks set to pay tribute to the remarkable men and women in the county who have made an outstanding contribution to society by serving in the armed forces.

The county council is holding a civic reception on Saturday, June 27, on the first national Armed Forces Day, to honour some of the county's former servicemen and women.

The celebrations include presenting 50 former servicemen and women of all ages with a veterans' medal. But the council needs readers' help.

Are you a former serviceman or woman who hasn't received the HM Armed Forces Veterans' Badge, and would like the chance to attend the civic reception?

A veteran is a man or women of any age who has served in HM Armed Forces at any time irrespective of the length of their service, and includes volunteers and regular reserves.

HM Armed Forces Veterans' Badge - which is enamelled, engraved and pinned features the words HM Armed Forces and the Tri-service, anchor, crossed swords and eagle motifs - was launched in May 2004.

Ever since 2004 it has been included in the leaving packs of all men and women leaving the armed forces.

It is designed to unite veterans as well as raise public awareness of their efforts in the community, and emphasise their ongoing contributions to society.

If you have served in HM Armed Forces and have not received an HM Armed Forces Veterans' Badge, and would like to be considered for an invite to Norfolk County Council's civic reception please visit https://online.norfolk.gov.uk/armedforcesday or contact Catherine Wilkinson, Chairman's Officer on (01603) 223230.
