Frustrated residents fed up with over-ground cables crossing their driveways following a BT fault have been told action is being taken.

People in Beech Rise suffered a break in service last year and a temporary cable was put in while a permanent solution was found.

Carl Annison, whose borough council ward includes the street, said the cable ran across the grass verge and represented a trip hazard.

Locals were fed up with the temporary measure and had not had any joy when they made efforts to contact the company to find out what was going on.

Mr Annison said although all the technology that people relied on was working fine the mainly elderly residents thought it was high time the problem was properly fixed and the cable put back underground.

A spokesman for BT apologised, adding: 'We are sorry for the length of time it has taken to make the permanent repair. We need to install around 20 metres of underground cabling as well as ducting as we have discovered that the current ducting in this location is blocked.

'This work is in hand and we are doing all we can to get it completed as quickly as possible.'
