Villages blocked off from the rest of the Great Yarmouth borough are struggling for essential supplies, with snow drifts preventing stocks from being replenished.

The Co-op in Hemsby has already completely run out of milk, while it is “almost certain” Filby will be out of bread and milk by the end of the day.

However, communities are rallying around one another to make sure the shortages have as limited an impact as possible.

Adrian Thompson, who runs the Mace shop in Filby said: “The village is blocked off completely, a lorry is stuck on Pound Lane and you can’t get down Ormesby Lane either.

“It is almost certain we will run out of bread and milk by the end of the day.

“My advice would be for people to be sensible and as a village we do all look out for each other. We will be okay.

“If you know of anybody who does live alone though, it’s well worth dropping in to see if they have everything they need.”

The Co-op in Hemsby has already run out of milk, although it has received a delivery of sandwiches and its on-site bakery has ensured it still has bread.

Sue Hewitt, team manager at the shop said: “We are hoping we will have deliveries of milk tomorrow, but we have completely run out now.

“There has been a big community reaction though, lots of people have been coming in and buying things for their neighbours, which is really helpful and nice to see.”
