Nearly 40kg of rubbish was collected during a beach clean organised by Sea Life Great Yarmouth.

The shoreline tidy-up started after 5pm on Wednesday, July 5 and GYB Services provided all the equipment, gloves, bin liners and litter grabbers. Debris on the beaches can be a problem as much of it ends up in the sea where it can become a serious hazard for marine life.

Sea Life were joined by 30 volunteers and items collected ranged from plastic and glass bottles to foil wrappers, nappies to clothing.

As a thank you from Sea Life, volunteers were given an entry ticket. Funds were also raised for Sea Life trust with a game of guess the total weight of rubbish collected, with Adam Junker winning a VIP turtle feeding experience.

A Sea Life spokeswoman said: “We would like to thank the volunteers who turned up to help with the beach clean.”
