A NEWLY-FORMED village youth club is proving a success but needs adult volunteers for it to continue in a permanent home.

At present Hopton youngsters meet weekly in a mobile unit and the plans are to move it into the village hall, and that's where adult volunteers are needed to help organise and run the facility - identified as a priority for the village by residents last year.

Hopton Parish Council heard last week that notices are to be placed around the village to encourage people to come forward.

Councillors heard the village continues to maintain a low incident record as far as the police were concerned; in January there were 41 calls to the police of which six were crimes.

Cllr Julie Woods revealed the Parish Plan was now in its final format, with a separate action plan and was adopted. It will now be printed and a request is to be made to the Norfolk Probation Service, Unpaid Work Unit to deliver the plan to every household in the village.

Legal papers have now been signed regarding the St Margaret's ruins and a completion date is awaited.

It was agreed that chairman Cllr Mike Butcher would investigate the setting up of a branch of the Norfolk Credit Union for the village as a service to the community. The NCU is regulated by the FSA and lend money at extremely low interest rates, subject to criteria. Funds can also be saved with the NCU.

KIN representatives from the southern villages meet quarterly with Norfolk Constabulary to discuss and set priorities within their area. The current priorities for the police are speeding along the main route in the village and parking outside the school on Coast Road. The next KIN meeting is at Burgh Castle on March 2 at 7.30pm. If any residents in Hopton would like to attend to represent the village, they should contact Cllr Julie Woods on 01502 733253.

Councillors heard that a beach clean and village tidy will be held on Sunday, April 5 meeting outside The Turnstone at 9.30am. More details will be available in the March Village View.

During the meeting's public forum matters raised included: the lack of sand on the beach due to severe easterly winds; maintenance to the sea wall at Hopton; the grass verge at the entrance to Somerfields; traffic calming, which will be included on the March council agenda; and a leaflet re speeding and litter in the village.

The next council meeting is on Monday, March 9, 7pm in the village hall.
