Archant

This was the dramatic moment a car went up in flames after being targeted by arsonists.

The car was set alight in an attack in the early hours of Saturday, September 22, in Pine Green, Gorleston, near Great Yarmouth.

Flames took hold of the vehicle at around 12.30am, with explosions waking up residents who alerted the police.

One resident, Georgia Gillett, said she heard the tyres blowout and the windows smash due to the heat.

She said: “I heard the horn, then a bang, and I thought someone had crashed. I jumped up to the window and saw the car parked up on fire.

“I called the fire service who came about four minutes later. They then must have called the police as there was a van and car blocking the car park after the fire service had gone.

“I just kept hearing loud bangs as the windows blew out and the tyres blew.”

Keiron Jeroen Shuckford said he had heard a group of people running around near his flat before he saw the flames.

He said: “I was shocked. I heard at least two lads running round the back of my flat and I thought that was a bit weird.

“I then heard a loud bang out the front, looked and saw the car on fire. I called 999 straight away and fire engines were there very quickly thankfully.”

Norfolk Police attended the scene at around 12.45am after being called by Norfolk Fire and Rescue to reports of a vehicle on Fire in Pine Green.

No-one was injured.

Officers were also dealing with another arson on High Road in the town at 12.30am, and said they are investigating circumstances surrounding both incidents, however they are not thought to be linked at this stage.

Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the areas or anyone with information should contact Det Con Gavin Rivett at Great Yarmouth CID on 101. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
