It's day two of Operation Big Wheel…and there are signs of wheel progress for the curious spectators.

By lunchtime today the massive steel supports for the latest arrival at Yarmouth's Pleasure Beach were in position and the multi-national team of engineers was hopeful of craning in the main axle and some of the 30 spokes that will support the gondolas by nightfall.

Pleasure Beach boss Albert Jones, who has teamed up with Midlands firm World Tourist Attractions to deliver the £3m attraction, said testing on Friday should be followed by the Big Wheel's public launch on Saturday.

The wheel has been manufactured in Germany by specialist firm Ronald Bussink and is being delivered to the site, next to the park's log flume, in 14 containers - the last four containing the enclosed, all-weather gondolas have still to arrive.

Adults will pay £6.50 and children £4.50 for the privilege of going on the 12-minute ride and taking in the panoramic views from a height of 40m - the same level as the resort's Nelson's Monument.
