THEY are Britain's premier seaside resorts, but when it comes to railway stations Great Yarmouth and Blackpool are at different ends of the line.

As these pictures show the contrast is striking - while Blackpool station boasts a bright enclosed concourse, Yarmouth has to make do with an unwelcoming expanse of concrete.

“The Lancashire town's station has a total of eight platforms, four covered, while Yarmouth has half as many - all exposed to the elements.

Blackpool also has better train links with direct services to Liverpool, Manchester, Manchester Airport and York, with Yarmouth mainly reliant on an hourly service to Norwich.

Tony Grice of the East Norfolk Transport Users Association said: “There needs to be a mindset change by the rail provider to not regard Yarmouth as a town that is somehow at the end of the beaten track.

“If the situation stays as it is and no progress is made in improving our public transport infrastructure, then Great Yarmouth (unlike Blackpool) is in danger of becoming a backwater and will quickly lose its rating as the second most popular holiday destination in the UK.”
