Residents of Belton and Browston are being asked to nominate their community champions for a citizen of the year award.The parish council wants villagers to put forward the names of people who have made a difference in the community by being involved in voluntary or sports groups and charities or has just helped a neighbour out.

The parish council wants villagers to put forward the names of people who have made a difference in the community by being involved in voluntary or sports groups and charities or has just helped a neighbour out.

Youngsters who have overcome difficulties to achieve their goals can also be nominated awards which will be announced in May.

Last year ,in a slightly different competition, there were four citizens of the year - Andy Jenner for his work on Belton Fens, Gill Ruddock of Belton Cubs, Claire Watts for setting up Wednesday coffee mornings and Myra Bowles a classroom assistant. The closing date for entries is January 15.
