A stretch of beach renowned for its seal colony has been cordoned off after the sea washed away a large section of sand.
The force of nature created a two metre high sand bank at Winterton, resulting in warning signs being put up.
People have been told to avoid the bank as it covers Second World War tank traps, which could be exposed if the bank gives way and collapses.
MORE; anger at seal photoEric Lund, chairman of Winterton Parish Council, said in his 20 years in the village he had never seen such a sand bank being created.
He put it down to a “vortex effect” caused as the village is between Hemsby and Horsey, which both have beach defences.
Mr Lund also said that the rest of beach was open as usual, including the cafe and the car park.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council is currently looking at a new costal defence plan for the area.
