A WOMAN was grabbed from behind by two men wearing balaclavas and assaulted during a burglary at her Great Yarmouth home on Monday.

The victim, aged in her mid 20s, was left in a state of shock following the attack as she carried shopping from her car into her home in Royal Avenue between 6.30pm and 7pm.

The men demanded money and assaulted her before searching her property and leaving on foot with the woman's purse containing a quantity of Euros. It is believed the men made off in the direction of Barnard Avenue.

Police have issued a description of the suspects.

They are said to be white, English speaking foreign nationals, aged between 25 and 30 years old, approximately 5ft 7ins tall and of slim build. One man has dark coloured eyes and dark coloured eyebrows.

Both were wearing balaclavas, one man was wearing a dark coloured waist length jacket which was zipped up.

The victim received minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Investigating Officer Temporary Detective Sergeant Darren Reade said: “This was a nasty incident which has left the victim in a state of shock - clearly it has been a very distressing experience for her.

“We are appealing for anyone with any information or who may have seen the two males before or after the incident to come forward.

“I would like to stress that this type of incident is rare but I would ask the public to be vigilant where possible particularly at this time of year.”

DS Reade is also making a general appeal to the public for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Royal Avenue area on Monday evening to contact him.
