A woman was so scared of her partner when he attacked her in bed, she fled him by jumping from a first floor window, a court heard.

Norwich Crown Court heard that the 24-year-old victim hurt her heel and was on crutches for three weeks.

Andrew Baxter, prosecuting, said that the victim also suffered from bruised ribs, cuts on her head and other bruising to her body after she was attacked by Daniel Emery.

Emery, 27, of Middlemarket Road, Great Yarmouth, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm on November 7 last year and also admitted common assault on Stephen Parker, who was a lodger with the couple at the time.

Mr Baxter said the couple had been together for several years but said Emery had a drink problem and had returned home and attacked the woman. He jumped on top of her in bed and punched her several times.

The victim escaped to the bathroom but Emery followed her and head butted her causing her head to bleed.

When the lodger Mr Parker tried to intervene Emery grabbed him by the throat and punched and kicked him.

Emery was given 12 months prison, suspended for two years, a supervision order for two years under which he must attend a domestic abuse programme and told he cannot contact either of the victims for two years.
