YOUNG women at GFS Platform Great Yarmouth are busily preparing to take part in All Change Here at Lambeth Palace on Tuesday.

The event has been organised by national charity the Girls Friendly Society (GFS Platform) that works with girls and young women across England and Wales with a project in Great Yarmouth

The aim of the day is to celebrate the work of GFS Platform past, present and future. Girls and young women from across England and Wales will take to the stage along side key speakers including Yarmouth MP Tony Wright and Andrew Ballard the Archdeacon of Manchester.

Project manager Diana Baxter said: “The young women are very excited about appearing at Lambeth Palace and have worked very hard at preparing their presentations. It will be a day for all of us to remember.”

GFS has been helping young women to help themselves since 1875 with the aim of providing opportunities to develop their potential, pursue aspirations, grow in confidence and to learn to value themselves and others equally, breaking cycles of deprivation and improving quality of life.

GFS Platform has three strands of work:

Four community projects in Skegness, Yarmouth, Sandown Bay and Penge that work with young women aged between 14 and 25 who may be pregnant or who have children and who may be, for whatever reason, excluded from many aspects of mainstream society.

Forty parish-based youth work branches run by volunteers that work with girls and young women aged seven and over.

A shared, supported housing scheme, St Paul's Lodge, that provides accommodation for 10 young mothers and their babies

GFS Platform Great Yarmouth has worked with young women since 1987 and offers a range of advice and support, educational and volunteering opportunities and has an Ofsted registered day nursery. In addition, GFS Platform works with young women between the ages of 13 and 16 who have been identified as likely to engage in risk taking behaviours.

The project has been organised by GFS and SeaChange Arts through their Sing Up East Coast programme
