Woodfarm Lane, in Gorleston, will be closed temporarily for five months from Wednesday, January 17 for highways and sewerage infrastructure improvements needed to support new planned homes in the Beacon Park area.

Once the temporary closure is lifted, the road will be permanently stopped-up part-way along its length, meaning it will no longer be an end-to-end through route for motorists. However, pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to travel the entire length and will benefit from improvements to the existing footpath and cycleway.

The closure to vehicular through-traffic is a planning condition required to support sustainable development. Motorists who use Woodfarm Lane as an end-to-end through route are asked to use the A47/A143 link road, which runs parallel and opened in 2015.

The improvements in Woodfarm Lane will start with the borough council’s contractor laying a new foul drain under road. The county council, working in partnership with the borough council, will then widen the southern section of the road and extend the existing combined footpath and cycleway to just past the play area.

The temporary closure, which is currently anticipated to be lifted by June, will cover much of the southern section of Woodfarm Lane. There are no properties on the section of road to be temporary closed. Direct access to Emerald Park (Gorleston FC), via Woodfarm Lane, will be maintained from the north during both the temporary closure and after it is lifted.
