A MAJOR building project to transform a Great Yarmouth primary school will begin next week.

Norfolk County Council's £2.4m remodelling project for Cobholm Primary School will begin on Monday with work expected to be completed in summer 2010.

The work will see the construction of a school hall, kitchen, class bases, group room, library/ICT learning resources area, administration offices and additional toilets.

NPS Property Consultants Ltd have designed the remodelling of the school, with RG Carter doing the construction.

Headteacher Julie Risby, said: “It is a very exciting time for the school. The work will make a huge difference to the range of learning opportunities that the children will receive.

Shelagh Hutson, Norfolk County Council's cabinet member for children's services, said: “The county council and Norfolk's schools are doing a huge amount of work to develop our children and young people's skills, and raise their aspirations - so that they have everything they need to go on and fulfil their ambitions throughout their lives.

“I am delighted that work is starting on site at Cobholm Primary. The money that the county council is investing in the school will transform the facilities at Cobholm for the benefit of both staff and pupils alike for years to come.”
