WROUGHTON Junior School became one of the first schools in Great Yarmouth to host the npower Climate Cops Academy, a new programme designed to help seven to 11 year olds learn how to become more energy efficient.
WROUGHTON Junior School became one of the first schools in Great Yarmouth to host the npower Climate Cops Academy, a new programme designed to help seven to 11 year olds learn how to become more energy efficient. More than 90 children from the school were involved in environment-saving activities and learned simple ways to save energy. Activities included using thermal imaging cameras, generating electricity with leg and arm power, and working with miniature examples of renewable energy sources. Karen Steed, a volunteer at the event from npower's Yarmouth Power station, said: “It's great to see children learn about energy in such a fun and exciting way. I'm very proud to be apart of this initiative and I hope this programme will work with other schools in the area to help reduce energy consumption.”
Teachers and children can go to the Climate Cops website at www.climatecops.com for interactive games and downloadable activities. Teachers can also visit www.npower.com/education to order a host of creative Climate Cops resources that bring education for sustainable development, science, geography and citizenship lessons to life.
