A woman from the Lowestoft area has been arrested in connection with a bomb hoax that prompted a major police incident in Great Yarmouth.

On Tuesday, February 6, officers were alerted after a call was made to police suggesting a bomb had been placed in Market Gates shopping centre.

The incident saw Spencer’s Sports Bar on Regent Road evacuated, as well as the McDonald’s and KFC restaurants next door and an area of the town centre was cordoned off for more than two hours.

On Thursday, February 8, a woman in her 30s was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

The incident happened at around 8.20pm, with a police seal put in place in the area until around 10.30pm.

The incident saw a heavy police presence in the town centre and it is believed the call was made from Spencer’s Sports Bar on Regent Road.
