TRAINEE chefs at Great Yarmouth College were delighted to discover their training was on a par with the best in the country during a visit to London.

The students enjoyed a tour of one of Britain's premier catering colleges, Kingsway Westminster, a chocolate demonstration by a British gold medallist in the culinary Olympics and a three-course lunch in the college's training restaurant.

Tutor David Patterson said: “One of the positive results of our visit was that the students saw that what they were doing at college and the training they were receiving was the same as the training students at Westminster were getting, albeit within a bigger operation.

“Kingsway is one of the biggest and the best and is renowned with students travelling from across the country to go there. It was good for the students and us to see that what we do in Great Yarmouth College is on a par with what they do there and they are not out on a limb in the industry because they are in Norfolk.”

The students had a chance to chat to Westminster students and staff, including chocolate Olympic gold medallist Javier Mercado.
