ONE person was taken to hospital and two others treated for minor injuries when two cars were involved in a collision at the junction of St Nicholas Road and Nelson Road North, Great Yarmouth this morning.

Two fire crews attended and used cutting gear to release one of the drivers.

The accident happened at around 10.20am and apart from the damage to both cars - a Peugeot 206 and Ford Fiesta - a wall at the Sea Breeze guesthouse was partly demolished.

Sandra Scales, who runs the guesthouse, said the accident had come as no surprise.

She said: “This is a very dangerous junction. There are always near misses and 10 years ago the exact the same thing happened when our wall was knocked down. This morning we just heard a loud bang and came outside to see what had happened.

“There was smashed glass everywhere.”

PC Chris Harris from Acle traffic division said: “This has happened at just the time we are holding our seatbelt safety week. We have stopped 20 people this morning for not wearing seat belts, it's a 30 fixed penalty, and our shift is only half way through.”

Police are appealing for witness to the accident and anyone with information is asked to contact PC Chris Harris on 0845 456 4567
