ADMINISTRATORS of a value clothing retailer with stores in King's Lynn and Great Yarmouth confirmed that a further 81 stores will cease to trade in the next three to four weeks.
MCR last night said that Ethel Austin and sister company Au Naturale stores would close by the end of March and a total of 696 position were likely to be made redundant.
A further 56 redundancies were announced yesterday at the head offices in Knowsley, Merseyside.
The King's Lynn store, in New Conduit Street, and the Yarmouth store, which opened only last year in Market Place, were not on the list of stores to close.
Yesterday's announcement follows the closure of 124 stores last month.
Geoff Bouchier, joint administrator and partner of MCR, stated: “It is a difficult retail climate and until such time as any sale of the businesses can be completed, cost-cutting measures need to be taken to allow the businesses to trade on in the short term. There are still opportunities for a purchaser of the businesses to come forward.”
