A man who locked himself and his terrified ex-girlfriend into her house and pulled out a variety of weapons has been sentenced to three months in custody.

Liam Pollard, of Lancaster Road, Great Yarmouth, appeared before Norwich Crown Court for sentencing yesterday after pleading guilty to one charge of affray. Pollard, 19, who has a two-year-old daughter with the victim, Candice Ciuffa, had been in a relationship with her for three years, but the couple split up two weeks before the offence, which happened on November 12 last year.

Rachel Cushing, prosecuting, said: “The defendant was demanding the phone number of a man called Wayne, with whom he suspected Miss Ciuffa had had a relationship.

“He was shouting at her and pacing up and down. He locked both of the doors and put the keys in his pocket. He then went to collect two knives and a hammer and was flicking the blade of a Stanley knife.

“Then he made Miss Ciuffa go to check on their baby daughter who was asleep upstairs, and he walked behind her, still holding the knife. Then he said he would hit Wayne round the head with the hammer and stab him, and that he would make Miss Ciuffa stab him as well. He also said he would take the baby away and burn the house down with her still inside. The victim was terrified by his behaviour and tried to escape, pulling the door handle down so hard that it came off. He then gave her the keys and she was able to get out.”

Jonathan Morgans, mitigating, said: “He admitted he was the angriest he had ever been, but his anger was directed at this man called Wayne, and not at Miss Ciuffa. At no stage did he threaten her.”
