Yarmouth man jailed for three years after mugging

A GREAT Yarmouth man who tried to mug a woman in Greyfriars Way has been jailed for three years.

A 47-year-old woman was approached by a man who grabbed her handbag just after 7pm on March 29, Norwich Crown Court heard.

The woman held onto the bag and was pulled over onto the ground, cutting her knees, before he fled with the bag. Three male members of the public came to her assistance, chased the offender and managed to get her handbag back.

Later that evening police arrested Michael Ellis at his home address in King Street in connection with the incident. The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to robbery at the hearing on April 26.

He was sentenced to 27 months for the robbery and given a further nine months for breaching a previous suspended sentence - a total of 36 months less 26 days spent on remand.
