Yarmouth parking fines to kick in

PUBLISHED: 16:52 09 June 2010 | UPDATED: 17:58 30 June 2010

DRIVERS are being warned that they face a fine if they don't observe parking bay signs on King Street and Deneside in Great Yarmouth from Friday, 18 June.

DRIVERS are being warned that they face a fine if they don't observe parking bay signs on King Street and Deneside in Great Yarmouth from Friday, 18 June.

Changes in King Street and Deneside as part of the St George's Chapel restoration made the old parking restrictions out of date, leading to some drivers parking for long periods for free.

However, new regulations will mean anyone ignoring the limits on the signs next to the parking bays risks being served with a fixed penalty notice.

Orders creating taxi and loading bays on Regent Boulevard will also come into effect on the same date, and letters warning local residents and businesses are being distributed today.

Apart from the final surface to the pedestrian area in front of Christchurch which is to be carried out shortly, the changes to the highway layout around St George's Chapel, and associated improvements, are now complete.

The next phase of works will see a start made to the restoration of the chapel itself, along with the construction of the adjacent new pavilion building, due to take place in the autumn.

During this time, St George's Plain car parking will be retained over the summer months.
