A PASSAGEWAY in Great Yarmouth plagued by fly-tippers is now rubbish free thanks to residents receiving smaller wheelie bins.

Residents at Camden Place had made several complaints about the passageway at the rear of their homes where a cluttered passage would often attract people to dump their waste.

Neighbourhood Environmental Management Officer (NEMO), Terry Bensley, consulted local residents on the problem and decided the way forward was to issue smaller wheelie bins so the could be stored in residents' backyards instead of the passage way.

Mr Bensley said: “Clearing the passages means that they have stopped becoming a target for fly-tippers, and it also allows the council's cleaning teams in to keep passageways neater and to clear the drains.

“This part of the town was one area that was hit by flooding, so being able to clear drains with rods and jet hoses will hopefully help in the future.

“I also spoke to a couple of landlords who have agreed that their tenants can store bins on the landlord's property. So this has been a great start and illustrates how working together can find a sensible solution for everyone.”

Mr Bensley's role is backed by a multi-agency board made up of representatives of Yarmouth Borough Council, GYB Services, the police and the Neighbourhood Management Programme for South and Central Yarmouth for Comeunity.
