Did you know Great Yarmouth has the second most complete medieval town wall in England? And it dates back to 1261?
The wall which surrounded the town to keep invaders out and the population safe, took 111 years to complete and several of the original flint towers exist today.
Parts of the old wall “pop out” of re-developed areas in the town, such as behind the Market Gates shopping centre, which continues in another section across the road and runs behind St Nicholas Priory Scool in Market Place.
The section pictured in south Yarmouth is well preserved and surrounded by streets suitably named including one, Town Wall Road.
