The impact of BBC Children in Need projects in communities across the UK was highlighted in a major BBC 1 campaign, this week, featuring Sunbeams Play in Great Yarmouth.

Project centre manager, Monica Bates, from Sunbeams Play featured in the campaign clips running across BBC 1 talking about the work they do on a daily basis to transform the lives of children and young people facing a number of disadvantages in the local area.

Monica said: “When children and young people come to us they can be themselves. All of the children make friends here and not one of them is isolated.”

Since 2015, Sunbeams Play have benefitted from a grant of £99,000 to provide activity sessions and holiday play schemes for local children and young people on the autistic spectrum and their siblings. Over the course of three years, the funding helps cover the salary of the manager who oversees a programme of activities in a safe and welcoming environment to increase the communication and social skills of its attendees.
