A woman who spent the summer looking after Yarmouth's endangered little tern colony on the beach has been named Easton College's student of the year.

Susan Rendell-Read picked up the award at the annual foundation degree graduation ceremony last Friday.

Susan, a mature student from Lowestoft who studied ecology and conservation management, did voluntary work for the RSPB, after which she was offered a seasonal contract helping to oversee the tern colony. She was one of 37 students from the faculties of land-based studies and sport, public services and art who were presented with their awards at the ceremony.
