WEIRD and wonderful sandcastles will be dominating Great Yarmouth's sandy beach on Sunday as the resort holds its third Master of the Sands annual competition.

Families will be grabbing their buckets and spades as they try to impress the judges to win a week's holiday at the nearby Haven Seashore Holiday Park.

And participants will have to be at their imaginative best as they try to out-do last year's winning entry of a Winnie the Pooh sandcastle.

Award-winning sand sculptor Simon Smith will be travelling up from his home in Jersey to provide advice on building the seaside structure.

On Saturday he will be creating his own sand sculptor to entice visitors to the beach.

Sponsored by the Yarmouth Mercury and Haven Holidays, Sunday's competition is free to enter and runs from 10am to 3pm.

There are three team categories - children aged from 10 to 16, adults (team of four maximum) and families (two adults and three children maximum).

Registration forms can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre on Marine Parade, Yarmouth, or by calling 01493 846346.
