People from organisations across Great Yarmouth gathered together to celebrate volunteering work in the borough.

More than 80 people attended the volunteering event at Great Yarmouth Library on Monday.

The aim was to thank those who donate their time and contributions to the local community.

The day consisted of presentations, a quiz on the history of Great Yarmouth, a relaxation exercise and a feast funded by the Queen’s 90th birthday grant from Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

Books and Beans supplied the food which included a birthday cake in honour of the Queen.

Also at the event, Norfolk County councillor for Yarmouth Nelson and Southtown ward, Cllr Rex Parkinson-Hare awarded certificates to some of the volunteers.

In total 25 voluntary organisations were represented at the event.

These groups got the opportunity to network with similar groups to get advice and information on what is working well for others.

The library has a wide range of volunteering roles available, including local history and family history, digital champions, Get Crafty support, children’s activities, shared reading support, community gardening, job club support and the Connect Group.

The library is currently looking for volunteers to join the Great Yarmouth Library Friends Group, which will be supporting with fundraising and volunteers to help run a coding club for children.
