Detectives investigating a robbery at Yarmouth's Nationwide Building Society are appealing for two young women who may have unknowingly seen the three raiders to come forward.

Det Insp Ricki Botwright said: “Looking at images from the town centre CCTV, we can see the ladies, who look in their mid 20s, with blonde hair and casually dressed, walking through the Market Place at the exact time of the robbery.

“They walked past Palmers department store, pausing to look in the window, and then walked between the security guards' Transit van and the Nationwide at a time when the raiders were probably still inside.”

Insp Botwright said it was quite possible the women were too wrapped up in their conversation to have noticed anything, but he was still keen to talk to them to see if they could provide clues.

A security guard was knocked over in the robbery, which happened at about 6.50pm on Thursday last week.

The raiders, their faces hidden by scarves or balaclavas, grabbed notes that were being used to fill the cash machines.

They then ran off down alleys towards Hall Quay where it is thought they may have got into a car.

The robbery is being linked to one the day before at the Thetford branch of Nationwide.

On that occasion, the raiders ran off towards the magistrates court and Bury Road.

Witnesses are asked to call Det Insp Botwright at Yarmouth CID on 0845 4564567 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
