A man who was made an MBE for setting up an organisation to help youngsters develop a sense of citizenship appeared at Norwich Crown Court yesterday charged with gross indecency against two boys.

A man who was made an MBE for setting up an organisation to help youngsters develop a sense of citizenship appeared at Norwich Crown Court yesterday charged with gross indecency against two boys.

Henry Day, 69, known as Harry, who has run the Young Citizens' Guild at Hemsby, near Yarmouth since 1972, is alleged to have committed five offences of gross indecency against the boys between January 1985 and December 1990. Two other charges relate to incidents alleged to have happened in Dagenham, Essex.

Day, of Wood View, North Walsham, is also charged with four counts of inciting the two boys to commit gross indecency in Hemsby and Dagenham and also perverting the course of justice.

He is due to appear at a further hearing on September 29.
