AFTER the excitement of last month's Eastern Festival, the Flat racing season at Great Yarmouth Racecourse wraps up for 2008 with two fixtures in the next 11 days.

The first is next Tuesday (October 21) when there are some very decent maiden and nursery races.

The big Newmarket training yards especially like to send their young prospective colts and fillies to Great Yarmouth where trainers regard the long galloping straight as a superb introduction to racing.

While there are seven scheduled races, there is every possibility that there will so many horses declared to run that one of the races will “divide” and create an eight-card card.

So, while the current start is 2.20pm, watch the media just in case it's an earlier first race.

The main race on Tuesday is the six-furlong European Breeders' Fund Maiden Stakes which is worth £6,000. There is also a maiden race for fillies over one mile.

The afternoon concludes with the Great Yarmouth Mercury Handicap Stakes.

Entrance gates will be open from noon on Tuesday.

There are massive savings to be made by buying tickets online for the final fixture of the year on Tuesday, October 28. Premier Enclosure is just £14 and the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure £7 at www.greatyarmouth-racecourse.co.uk.

* Regular admission: Premier Enclosure £19; Grandstand and Paddock £12. Group discounts available. Accompanied children aged under 16 admitted free. More information at www.greatyarmouth-racecourse.co.uk.
