On Saturday athletes from the Great Yarmouth and District Athletic Club competed at the Norwich Sportspark in the first fixture of the Norfolk Sportshall Athletics League where athletic events are designed to be done in sports halls with specially designed equipment.

U11s and U13s compete in the league while U15s compete in a multi-event individual competition.

In the boys U15 section Andrew Creak finished fifth after his six events and Sophie McKinna was eighth in the girls' event.

The club's most successful team was the U13 boys who finished third a very good result as they were two athletes short.

The U13 girls finished in fifth place.

The U11 girls and boys were low on numbers and finished in seventh and eighth position.

With several new athletes competing it was a new but very enjoyable experience for them and they are all looking forward to the next fixture in November.

Anyone aged nine to 15 wishing to try sportshall athletics is welcome to come along and try it on Tuesday evenings at the COFE, Lichfield Road, meet sportshall 7pm.

ON Sunday a few athletes from the Great Yarmouth and District Athletic Club competed in the Ryston Runners Cross Country series of six races which continues over the next five months.

In the U13 girls' race over 3k through forest trails Catherine Lee showed everyone a clean pair of heels with an excellent run winning in a time of 12:03, over 20 seconds ahead of the second runner.

Kelly Pywell in the same race had another good run finishing in seventh place in a time of 13:43.

In the U13 boys' race also over 3k Keelan Pywell was in a close race finally finishing third in a time of 11:45.

To complete a successful day Frankie Turner running in the girls U15 race again over 3k had another fine third position in a time of 12:23.
