Tuesday night’s match between two evenly matched sides could have gone either way but it wasn’t the spectacle many had hoped for.

Matty Potter was in temporary charge with Stewart Larter away and the Greens were unchanged from the game at Coggeshall, with Peter Lambert making his 250th appearance.

Two of Gorleston’s most prolific strikers of recent times were on display. Ross Gilfedder has scored 21 in 23 games and Connor Ingram hit the net 45 times in 90 appearances before heading off to the Yachtsmen, so it was hoped this would be an exciting shoot out between the two hot-shots.

Gorleston started well with Jack Garrod and Gilfedder both having off target efforts in the first four minutes but the visitors forced the first save of the game from a 27th minutes corner when Scott Foreman saved from point blank range to deny Marcus Wilkinson.

The Greens applied some pressure leading up to the break. Countering from a Wroxham corner after a great interception by Nathan Russell, Sean Perfect saw his shot blocked, with Gilfedder firing the follow up wide.

On the stroke of half-time Perfect again worked himself an opening in the box, poking the ball past George Macrae in the Wroxham goal but the effort didn’t have the pace to reach the net and was cleared.

Gilfedder was inches away from breaking the deadlock in the 58th minute, bursting through on the left but his shot thudded against the post, with a follow-up effort blocked.

As the game neared the end it seemed both teams were more intent on not losing than going for the win but it was Wroxham who should have secured three points four minutes into injury-time.

Connor Ingram was played through the middle, one on one with Foreman, but the unerring accuracy Greens fans had got used to seeing deserted Ingram in the blue shirt and he side-footed the best chance of the match wide.

It was Gorleston’s sixth clean sheet of the season and the first goalless game they have been involved in since March 2016 at Felixstowe. The last time there was a 0-0 at Emerald Park was in January 2015.

Match and ball sponsor Norfolk Hire awarded the man of the match to Kyle Ingram.
