Poor weather ensured that Gorleston Golf Club’s Maddock Tankard fourball competition was postponed for a further week.

The Ladies’ Section were able to play their Divisional Stableford followed by traditional sausage rolls and mince pies.

In Division One Pauline Phillips was first with a super 39 points with Jackie Walsh second with 36 points. Division Two; Vera Woolnough 35 points on countback from Maureen Duckett; Division Three: Andree Bloomfield 35 points with the ladies’ president Thelma Evans, second with 31 points.

Following this competition Vonnie Thornton presented representatives of the East Coast Hospice with a cheque for £2,520, being the money raised by the Ladies’ Section towards her designated charity for the year.

The winners of the Divisional Stableford on December 21 were: Division One Paul Platten with a great 39 points from Paul Finch, 38 points. Division Two: Tony Bushkes with 37 points with Fred Simeons on 34 points second.

The post Christmas Thursday Stableford was played on temporary greens resulting in some high scoring.

Division One went to Ray Pope with 40 points and in second place was Martin Pestle on 39 points.

Division Two saw Arthur Simmonds in first place with an outstanding 44 points from Tony Bushkes on 42 points.

Rugby Union: Great Yarmouth-Broadland have what looks like a decent chance to record their first win of the season in Eastern Counties One North tomorrow.

They resume their campaign following a festive break with a home match against Swaffham, the side immediately above them in the table.

Broadland have lost all 12 of their games so far but have been competitive in many games and have seven bonus points to their name.

In Division Two promotion chasing Martham visit Poringland Wanderers and Acle Reserves host Wells Town while Hemsby travel to Swaffham Town Reserves in Division Three.
