Halvergate returned to action after a weather enforced break at home against Great Melton B on Saturday and maintained their 100 percent record.

Halvergate batted first on a hot afternoon and soon lost James Howley for a duck with the score on six.

Luke Hannant and Perry Kelf then relentlessly built a 140 run second wicket partnership over the next 30 overs until Hannant was bowled for 88.

Steve Utting was caught on 10 and Danny Cook (17 not out) supported Kelf over the closing overs to see the skipper reach his maiden century off the penultimate ball of the innings and finish 100 not out. Halvergate closed their innings on 227 off their 45 overs.

After an excellent tea and some much-needed hydration Great Melton started briskly before Pitchers claimed Aldbrough for 12.

With the score on 104 in the 20th over, and Great Melton up with the required run-rate, Tom Daynes claimed Stearman for 44 and two runs later Bugg for 42. The runs slowed up and Daynes claimed his third wicket when Wilkinson was caught to see Great Melton on 121 for four in the 30th over.

Clarke (22 not out) and Kannan (12 not out) batted the remaining 15 overs for a further 46 runs to see the visitors’ response finish 61 runs short on 167-4.

The Halvergate bowling figures were Danny Cook 0-39, Adam Pitchers 1-28, Graham Harrop 0-34, Stuart Willimott 0-29, Tom Daynes 3-20 and Jack Cooley 0-4.There were two catches for Luke Hannant and one for Graham Morris.

The game returned 23 points for Halvergate and they remain second in the Norfolk League Division Two East, four points behind Caister who Halvergate visit tomorrow. Caister beat Sprowston B by 104 runs.

Elsewhere in the Norfolk League Great Yarmouth A were on the wrong end of an amazing batting performance. Bungay A’s George Shipley broke the league record for the highest individual score as he smashed an unbeaten 270 in the Division 4SE leaders’ total of 419-9. In partnership with 14-year-old Archie Flood, the 10th wicket record stand was also recorded. Yarmouth were dismissed for just 67 in reply.

Great Yarmouth’s firsts were bowled out for an even lower total, 52, as Overstrand’s Neil Yarham took 6-6. Overstrand had earlier made 147-6.
