Yarmouth T 1 March TU 3

The Bloaters were left to rue missed first half chances as despite Joel Watts’ late consolation, came away with nothing to show from their efforts.

Mike Derbyshire gave a debut to midfielder Rorie Burnett, a move that saw Matty Wright drop to the bench, writes REBECCA ABBOTT.

Injury saw ‘keeper Ben Cudden drop to the bench, with the versatile Johnny Jarvis taking the gloves. Danny Burkle took his place at right-back.

Joe Bryanton came back into the team, taking the captain’s armband off the suspended Callum Jones, while Mitch Forbes and George Barnden’s returned to the starting line-up in place of Danny Scriven and Neil McMorran.

Yarmouth had the better of the opening stages as a free kick from Robin Andersen fell into the path of Watts who forced a fine save off visiting keeper Ben Collett after 10 minutes.

Midway through the first half a pinpoint cross from Marian Jobbagy found Leighton Crux in space, but the winger blasted a volley over from 12 yards. The Bloaters continued to press for an opener and it almost came just shy of the half-hour mark, but Mitch Forbes could only direct Andersen’s free kick into the side netting. March did go close to taking the lead on 37 minutes as Johnny Jarvis turned Ash Brand’s low effort onto the crossbar with George Barnden clearing the rebound.

Yarmouth were inches away from taking the lead on the stroke of half-time as Mitch Forbes latched on to Joel Watts’s through ball and fired into the top corner, but the strike was harshly ruled out for offside.

The visitors took the lead nine minutes into the second half. Ash Brand raced on to Scott Welcher’s through ball and side-footed the ball into the bottom corner. Fifteen minutes from time as Luke Pepper was felled on the edge of the box, and Danny Emmington blasted the resulting free kick under the wall and into the net.Three minutes later Max Mattless rose highest to power home Emmington’s corner.

Yarmouth got a late consolation as Forbes beat the visiting ‘keeper Ben Collett and poked the ball goalwards, only to see it cleared off the line by a defender. From the resulting corner Joel Watts slotted home.

Straight from the kick-off Forbes had a shot turned behind for a corner. George Barnden headed inches wide. Tomorrow Yarmouth travel to high-flying Swaffham (ko 3).
