TWO 3 Lions Gym junior fighters became JFCC British open full-contact champions at Newark in Nottinghamshire last Sunday.
Junior European Champion Kelsea Carroll (12) got to the -35kilo final where she beat Londoner Ellie Clarke on points. Landing lovely straight punches, rocking Read several times in the first two rounds, Kelsea got a bit tired in the third round but had done enough to win the title in the first two rounds - a great win for Kelsea, a star of the future.
Lowestoft's Luca McComb (eight), having his 32nd bout, beat Birmingham's Asif Khan by first round stoppage in the semi-finals and to beat Leicester's Chris Smith on points in the -25k final with a great display of aggression, winning all three rounds by a close margin.
The gym now boasts 10 junior champions including a world junior champion, a European schoolgirl champion and a Commonwealth schoolgirl champion in three disciplines - full-contact kickboxing, semi-contact kickboxing and Muay Thai.
Junior training is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6.15pm and Saturday from 1-3pm.
